Health research in the Faroe Islands
All health research in Faroe Islands is organized in the Health Research Unit of the Faroese Hospital Service.
The Health Research Unit was established on 1 January 2023. Prior to that, health research took place at Landssjúkrahúsið, the national Genetic Biobank, the Department of Occupational and Public Health, the National Board of Health, and the National University of the Faroe Islands.
The research unit will bring together all health research in the Faroe Islands in one place, where there are conditions for a research environment where researchers can share knowledge and experience, and thus gain cooperation and interaction. The best possible conditions will also be provided for both the practical research and the administrative and administrative part of it. The research unit shall accommodate 25 researchers.
Research within health in the Faroe Islands and in the Faroese health affairs is of great importance for the Faroese and the Faroese health service. It is crucial that we take the lead when it comes to research into our own health conditions to gain insight into how they are compared to elsewhere. Certain issues are unique to the Faroe Islands. If no one researches these issues, there will be no knowledge of the unique Faroese phenomena.
