The Electronic Patient Record
The Electronic Patient Record is a joint journal and communication system at the entire health sector of the Faroe Islands (hospitals, GPs, elderly and nursing homes, certain other health professionals, the pharmacy etc.).
The system is used to ensure high health professional quality, rational use of resources and balance, and that patients' progress is consistent.
The Electronic Patient Record collects all information about patients in one system, so that all health information of the individual is available regardless of whether one goes to the GP or other medical specialists, goes for examination in an outpatient clinic or is admitted to one of the hospitals. Since the pharmacy and the elderly and nursing homes were also linked to the system, it has also contributed to ensuring that residents of elderly and nursing homes always receive the medicines prescribed by a doctor.
About 1,000 health workers use the Electronic Patient Record as their daily work tool.
New IT system
Preparations are underway to acquire a new IT system for the Electronic Patient Record. This will be one of the largest IT projects in Faroe Islands. The first step is to prepare the requirements for the new system.
